Don't Like the Way Your Abs Look? Here's What to Do.

Wondering whether you can upgrade your abs from a 6 pack to an 8 pack or 10 pack?

Strong and muscular bodybuilder showing off his muscles and abs

For many men and women out there, having a set of define, shredded abs is a primary fitness goal that they have.

It's a dream for many to be able to show off a perfect, shredded and symmetrical six pack.

Not only is it incredibly tough to achieve this goal, it's also hard to maintain and is seen as a great sign of fitness and dedication by many.

However, some people will reach the peaks of their fitness journeys, only to find that they've ended up with uneven abs, only a measly four-pack instead of a six or eight-pack, all looking disheveled and randomly shaped.

Many people will see this and feel dejected or cheated, having worked so hard and given up so much to only achieve a set of abs that look nothing like that of the bodybuilders and athletes on social media.

In this article we're going to take a look at why this happens, and whether or not you can go about changing this if it happens to you.

Let's get started.

What Causes Abs to Look Different?

Large and muscular bodybuilder with blocky and uneven abs

Many people start to question their training or lifestyle choices when they see that they have uneven abs, or that they've only got a four-pack.

Many will start to wonder whether they didn't eat the right foods, or whether they did too many crunches and not enough planks.

It's Your Genetics

Well, we hate to be the ones to bear the bad news for you, but the shape, symmetry and number of abs that you have are all completely reliant on your genetics.

If you see that you only have a four-pack instead of a six-pack, we're sorry, but there's nothing that you can really do about this.

These are things that are determined by your genetics, and nothing is going to be able to change them.

It's not a good idea to go and waste money trying some sort of 'ab shaper' that you see online, or anything stupid like that.

It's much like your height.

Whether you like it or not, nothing that you do is going to change it, and the best play for you is to accept it and become the best version of yourself.

You'll see that some fortunate people have perfectly shaped 8-packs, while other people have abs that are uneven (sometimes to the point where it might look like they have 3 rows on one side, but only two on the other!).

It's not because they trained smarter, or because they were just more dedicated, it simply comes down to their genetics.

Either way, no matter what your abs look like, it's a worthwhile investment getting them defined and looking sharp if you want to be proud of yourself and really prove to yourself that you are strong.

Remember, you're never going to be able to change:

  • the shape of your abs

  • the symmetry of your abs

  • whether you have a four-pack, a six-pack or an eight-pack.

You can still achieve a great looking physique, still prove to yourself and those around you that you're tough and hard working, and still work on improving yourself, no matter the ab genetics that you've been dealt.

You can simply take a look at people like Brian DeCosta, who don't have the 'perfect' set of abs, but still look so incredibly impressive with all the hard work they've put in to their fitness!

Even Arnold Schwarzenegger himself had a four-pack!

One of the most famous bodybuilders in all of history had a four-pack, and it certainly still looked great on him!

So How Do You Get Abs?

And in case you're wondering how to get those abs that you've wanting to show off, it's pretty simple.

All it comes down to is losing enough body fat to make sure that you cut down on the excess fat around the stomach area, and really unveil those abs.

It's not about doing endless crunches or sit ups, because at the end of the day, no matter how big or strong your abs are, they're not going to show if you're hiding them behind too large of a layer of fat.

Get yourself in a caloric deficit, and make sure that you're consistently hitting the weights so that you can improve your metabolism and build on all the areas of the body you're trying to create!

Conclusion

Overall, the look of your abs is not something to be ashamed or insecure about.

It's not something that you can change, and definitely not something that you should be judging or doubting yourself for.

It's completely up to your genetics, and the best thing that you can do is to simply put your best food forwards and become the best person you can be, regardless of your ab genetics.

Whether you like your ab genetics or not, those are the cards you've been dealt, and it's up to you to win the game.
